When it comes to the look of a home, the first thing you notice from the moment you drive up is the architecture and design of the elevation, or front of the home.  It’s a make it or break it moment for any home buyer and can lead you to falling in love with a home and/or a home builder or… exactly the opposite!

Lately the buzz about “social networking” has reached an all-time high.  Hours are spent in front of computers on Facebook… MySpace… LinkedIn… Foursquare… Google+… Instagram… Twitter… to name just a few.  Figuring them all out can be quite overwhelming!  The good news is, if given the right guidance- using some social networking sites can be a fabulous tool for homebuyers and McMillin has jumped on the bandwagon and is using the social media site Pinterest in amazing ways to give their customers a unique home buying experience.

So you’ve got the perfect piece of land purchased and the time has finally come to start building your dream home on it.  When it comes to Building on your Own Lot (BOL) there are many things to consider and McMillin homes might be just who you need to make your dreams a reality!

One of the latest recycled trends in housing is multigenerational housing.  Prior to World War II a quarter of Americans lived with extended family.  That number decreased steadily over the years and now is again on the rise becoming one of the hottest trends in home remodeling and new home construction.

January is the time of year when everyone gets a clean slate.  It’s a time for change, growth, new opportunities and New Year’s Resolutions!  Even your home deserves some consideration as you make plans for the year ahead.  Add a few of these items to your resolution list for 2013 and your home and family will reap the reward in the coming year!

So you’ve found the neighborhood you’ve always dreamed of, and picked the perfect spot to build a home for your family.  After selecting the perfect floor plan to call home you’re headed toward the finish line, but there are a few more decisions ahead before the moving vans can load up.

iPods, and Smartphones, and Tablets… OH MY!

Nowadays the number of devices each of us own that require the use of a USB cable seems to be growing exponentially. Keeping these gadgets charged and ready to go is as much of a struggle as finding the wall adapter to plug it into. The designers and builders at McMillin homes have a solution for you and are now including USB power outlets as a newly available option when planning the design of your new home.

We don’t often toot our own horn, but we just can’t help it this year. We want our homeowners and prospective homeowners to know just how top-notch your builder is. You can feel confident that you are dealing with one of the best home builders around and our awards cabinet shows why.

The Texas Association of builders gives out their Star Awards each year, and 2012 was a record breaking year for McMillin. Out of over 400 entries, McMillin Homes got top honors in the following Volume Builder categories:

The Texas heat seems like it’s never going to let up, but there is an end in sight!  Although we have probably not seen our last one hundred degree day in San Antonio, the coolness of fall is right around the corner.  And with fall comes planning for landscaping and lawn care to survive the cooler seasons to come.

Nest Thermostat

The team at McMillin homes is always on the hunt for the latest and greatest technology and amenities for our new home buyers.  Towards that goal we now proudly offer the ultimate thermostat for controlling your new home environment – The Nest Thermostat. The Nest Learning Thermostat was designed and built by former Apple employees that created the iPod & iPhone.  Their goal was to build a thermostat that was easy to use, beautifully designed and the ultimate in energy efficiency. They nailed it and now it can be part of your new McMillin home.
