Whether you have actually experienced summer in San Antonio or have just heard tales of mercury rising day after day, it’s no laughing matter around this neck of the woods.  The summer heat can be unbearable and finding yourself with an air conditioning unit that isn’t working properly is no doubt a summertime nightmare that you certainly don’t want to live out.  The best way to beat the heat this summer is to have your AC unit serviced regularly before it gets put to maximum use this summer.

Help McMillin Homes and local charities provide for those in need

Thanks to whirlwind schedules of shopping, eating, traveling, gathering, and eating (again), the holidays tend to breeze by for most of us. For some San Antonio-area families, however, this time of year serves as a reminder of what they lack and how difficult each day can be. That makes for an unsettling Christmas, and we’re asking for your help in changing that.

Home automation solutions from McMillin Homes and Control4 help you save money, stay safe, and breathe easy

Take a quick look around you; how many electronic gadgets, gizmos, and doodads do you see? If you’re like most people, you’re surrounded by smart phones, computers, and a score of electronic devices that are supposed to “simplify” your life. But what often happens is you spend tons of money and time trying to make all these things work just the way you need them to.

That doesn’t have to be the case in your home, thanks to the latest-and-greatest home automation gear from Control4. True, we’ve been promised the home of the future for six decades, but it’s better late than never - and with the equipment and options available in a new McMillin Home, you’ll likely say it was worth the wait.

Common questions about the Federal Housing Administration

The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) has been providing mortgage insurance for home loans since 1934, and today it’s the largest insurer of mortgages in the world. But despite its size and relative prominence in the U.S. market, most folks don’t seem to know much about the agency
and what role it may play in helping them with their mortgages.

Does it matter? Absolutely, especially given the pace of change in today’s housing markets and some recent modifications in FHA policies and mortgage rates that could have profound effects. These changes inspire a lot of questions, some of which we’re happy to help answer.

It’s commonly said that green living is a way of life or a major commitment—and therein lies the trouble. Honestly, we all seem to have a few too many commitments in life, and even the promise of smaller utility bills often isn’t enough to inspire earth-friendly action. Thankfully, there are a couple of additions you can make at home that can make a huge difference, with little effort required.

The McMillin Homes blog isn't quite two years old, but we've noticed a trend in our posts that tends to conform with trends in Texas weather. That continues this month; if you haven't noticed, it's been a bit warm out lately, and that means folks are doing everything they can to conserve water.

Judging by the childrens’ cries of anguish and the adults’ cries of muted joy, the school year must be upon us. And as any parent knows, one of the most-celebrated back-to-school rituals – the mad dash for school supplies – already is in full swing.

Likewise, McMillin Homes is in the middle of collecting supplies for school children who may not have enough resources to be fully equipped, and we’re asking for your help. Between now and August 15, 2011, McMillin Homes is accepting donations of school supplies for needy kids at our main office, the Design Studio, or any McMillin model home.

The model home at McMillin Homes’ Presidio neighborhood is making its acting debut this weekend! Tune into HGTV for House Hunters on Sunday, July 10, 2011, for a peek inside one of San Antonio’s best communities.
